So how can Pathways to Work help me? Pathways to Work offers extra support to people who are claiming Incapacity Benefit (IB), Severe Disablement Allowance, Income Support (IS), Disability Living Allowance etc., because of incapacity in order to help them into work. So how can Pathways to Work help me? We can help get you a job. We understand that it can sometimes be hard for people to get a job, particularly when they have health related issues or a disability. We also understand that there are many things to think about when starting work, particularly the effect that working can have on your benefits. This is where Pathways to Work can help. Your Personal Advisor has a great deal of experience in helping people like you to take the first steps into work. What will happen at your first meeting? You will be greeted by your Personal Advisor and the meeting will last about an hour. At the meeting we will be able to discuss the help that we can offer you to take the first steps to returning to work. Your Personal Advisor will be able to tell you about the support that is available and discuss what is right for meeting your needs. At this meeting we can offer advice on: • the steps that can be taken towards getting work; • training to update your skills; • programmes to help you manage your health condition; • Permitted Work – which could help you to try different kinds of work whilst still being entitled to benefit; • Tax Credits, the new Return To Work Credit and other financial support available; • other help you can access.

We will also provide access to: • Employment Coaches who will help you look for work and give support once you are in work; and • specialist support provided by Disability Employment Advisors, if necessary. Is there any help to enable me to attend the meeting? Yes there is. We may be able to provide support with: • the cost of a registered childcarer (payment will be made directly to the child care provider on your behalf); • travel costs (you will need to bring proof of these, e.g. travel tickets, with you to the meeting); • obtaining an interpreter or any other help you may need to attend the meeting. You need to contact us before the meeting to arrange any of these. Do I need to bring anything with me? Where you have contacted us directly and not visited a Job Centre Plus Office, you will need to bring proof of your benefit showing the latest payments. These documents can be: • Benefit Award Notice • Benefit Change of Award • Bank statement showing eligible benefit payment What do I do if I cannot attend the meeting? Please phone us as soon as possible, so that we can re-arrange the meeting for another time. Can I bring someone with me to the appointment? Of course you can. This can be a friend, relative or anyone else you wish.
